garbled characters, callsigns - and the use of "<>" special symbols

at the time i was at the top version. (to me it is common sense to be updated before complaining, its also common sense to mention the version in a bug report... which.. umm i failed doing ..duh) However, people stopped using "pinpoint" in broadcasts - at least i dont see "pinpoint" software related messages in broadcast anymore. So the problem is solved one way or the other, and it is hard to reproduce at this time anymore. 73, 7imo
