I am using VarAC on a Linux machine. I discovered some very strange errors.
My environment:
- Arch Linux
- Wine 8.13
- VARA 4.7.7
- VarAC 8.06
The installation of the wine directory and the software was manageable after a few small hurdles. The program is run with the Linux option.
The program started, but showed a strange behavior. The VARA window opened and closed again. Opened again and closed again. Then it opened for the third time and then stayed open. Then the VarAC window opened.
After that, it looked like the program was working at first. I could receive others and send out barks and broadcasts. But when I connected to other stations, the transmission of text and text modules did not work properly. The transmission hung somehow and the connection always broke off after a short time.
Then I installed a second, identical system on a virtual machine and tried very much tests directly between the two systems.
Finally I found out that VarAC only works under Linux if the "monitor path" is set up under "VARA Modem Configuration", although this should actually only be optional. Now everything works perfectly. At program start both VARA windows open and then the one from VarAC. Connections to other stations work smoothly and I have had some nice qso's now.

After upgrading to VarAC 8.4.4, the problem no longer occurs. 😀
Thank you for your efforts.

whats the silicone? I have the reverse results from you. I cant function with monitor but I can QSO with out.
Thank you for reporting.
@kellykeeton - as a long-time Linux-VarAC users - can you confirm this on your end as well.
Not sure where this bug is originated from and maybe you can provide me with some hints to dig in.
