I just upgraded from v2.5 (which worked well) to v2.7.2. I also upgraded Vara HF to v4.5.0. Now when I try to select a frequency, it immediately goes back to zero. Each time I try, the VarAc Log shows "OmniRig: Change Frequency" for each attempt, but nothing changes. The sound card is set properly (Signalink) and when I send a beacon, the rig transmits. Not sure if this is a bug, something with my computer, or something I did wrong. Please help.

Well, it took quite a while, but I finally figured it out and got it working! (Not too bad for a Not very tech savvy guy!) The problem was CAT control - I didn't have it; didn't even understand it. So I had to research, learn the basics, and then apply them. Felt I was on the right track but got stuck when Omnirig Client kept telling me "rig is not responding". Figured the problem may have been with the USB to RS232 serial adapter/cable/driver between the laptop and the rig. Tried one with a PL-2303 chip and then one with an FTDI chip. Neither one worked. As a last resort, I ordered a programming cable designed specifically for the FT-45D (USB to RS232 with FTDI Chip). THAT was the answer. It came in today, and worked perfectly as soon as I set it up! I installed the latest version of VarAc and it had CAT control. Beacon is now going out, and other hams are responding to my beacon. I'm now a happy camper! Thanks for all your help!
Can now display comm ports in device manager, but no com1.
To answer your questions -
No, the frequencies on the transceiver do not change.
I'm just starting to use/learn the WSJTX software, but may have noticed a problem.
Here are photos of the Omni-Rig Settings and the Device Manager on my computer.
With VarAc running, I see no comm ports listed in the Device Manager. I have the same situation in trying setting up WSJTX. Looks like the problem is on my side, now just to figure it out.
Hi @johnebork2
In 2.7.2 there is a new way in which VarAC and OmniRig works.
it is not showing on the dashboard the freq you selected... it shows the actual frequency omnirig report you are now on. so if you move the dial manually to another frequency - it will show you the freq you tuned to.
Apparently, Your omnirig is failing in reading the frequency from your transceiver.
1. First - when you change the drop down - does it succefully change the frequency on your transceiver ?
2. Do you use omnirig with other software (WSJTX / LOG4OM) so you can validate if you get a good frequency read ?
3. Can you post a screenshot of your OmniRig setting ?
Thanks
Irad
I had the same problem with my KW TS-2000 then I realized I had HRD running in the back ground and OmniRig could not connect to radio as soon I closed HRD it freed the comm port and everything worked great.
It will be the best way to see which direction it is broken.
I've not yet used these programs. I'll install and test them and let you know the results.
What have you done to confirm if OmniRig is working with your rig??
E.g. have you tried testing against Omni-Rig Client, or maybe WSJT-X with OmniRig selected as the radio????
Everything worked well with the earlier version of VarAc. Made many contacts. Things just changed when I upgraded to the new version.
Have you confirmed that you have good connectivity between the 450 and OmniRig?
Yaesu FT-450D
