This is one of those bug reports that I absolutely HATE to send, because it's so vague, and hard to define exactly what is going on.
Here is what I have observed over the last 2 or 3 days (I've never seen this on earlier versions). After sending a line of text, everything stops. The callsign that I'm linked to is greyed out. No ACKS/NAKS are sent, and within a few seconds (10?) Vara-HF sends a DISCONNECT.
Exiting and re-starting VarAC returns everything to normal.
Nothing has changed on the PC, and the only other software that is running is Log4 OM.

Hi @wd4kav Jow. Assuming you use OmniRig. Can you paste here a screenshot on the Omnirog Config ?
I've started to notice that the T/R cycle is sometimes not as fast as it needs to be. I've only seen this in the most recent VarAC. I leave the receive audio "up" a little during a QSO, to see what the other signal sounds like. Now, sometimes, the rig will not switch back to receive INSTANTLY, like usual. It seems to remain in XMIT (but with no VARA-HF tones being sent) for perhaps another second after the last packet goes out the door. Again, this is an occasional thing, not something with every xmit/rcv cycle.
(My rig is an IC-7300, and i'm using OmniRig). This latest quirk does not happen when using other modes.)
I've not been able to do a test yet with another station to see if this happens with the normal "pings" that happen when the circuit between the two stations is idle or not.
Then again, this might be a wrinkle in VARA-HF ?

Yep, I'm using the latest Vara-HF. When this has happened, I don't hear the other station sending anything at all, and it's happened with different stations, on different bands (so I don't think it's an RF issue). I guess this might indicate that both sides have stopped checking the link ?
I'll just try a re-connect the next time this occurs, and see what happens.

It does sounds like the "varahf" dead lock issue. This is when both sides transmit at the same time over and over again. At some point both sides hang and a few seconds later the link get disconnected. It happened to me on my test environment rarely. This was once very common until i reported this to Jose and he added a random timer for the next attempt. I did notice it still happens but not as frequent as in the past . Based on my experience, no need to restart VarAC. Reconnecting is enough. Did it happen to you with the same person ? Or with different hams. And just to be sure, you run varahf 4.5.0? Irad.
