In the Canned Messages there is a "Welcome Message". I assumed this would be the message which would automatically be transmitted when I am AWAY. But it is in fact used when I an NOT away.
Could we please have a special message which is transmitted when a connection is made, in the Away status, so the system transmits something like:
"Hi, Bart here. I will be back around xx UTC!"
Thanks, Bart ZL4FOX
There was. long time ago. It was deprecated. there is a system defined default away message that contains the <AWAY> tag (or <AWQ> tag which is "Im away but I allow auto QSY").
This is to send minimal amount which signals on the other side a popup box "the station is away - leave them a vmail".
I have no plans on bringing this feature back as it had no real value and only occupied the CF too much time with no humen control of killing the link in case the speed level is low or QRM is high.
Over time we did a lot of work to make sure the CF is as clear as possible. This was one move among a chains of moves.
CF was once a super occupied place and people could not call CQ.
