These may have been suggested ... I don't know. 1) Group chat, if possible, to allow for roundtable chats. Allow the Group function to have a filter for All or to filter-allow only selected call signs. This filter would be like a selective squelch to allow multiple simultaneous chats. Not private, just selective.
2) A Tune button and/or auto-Tune function. The auto-Tune would initiate a short tune transmission after selecting a new band/frequency before the first transmission. Maybe transmit "callsign-tune".
3) More canned message fields.
4a) Options on Send File to define file send/receive maximum size and to disable gzip for already compressed images.
4b) Some type of option that uploads oversize files to a defined cloud account, transmits the link and VarAC retrieves the file automatically if Internet connected or to be retrieved when Internet comes available.
5) "Heard" item that indicates All Heard, not just Beacon or CQ.
Great program. Thanks for all your work.
Howard
Thanks for the reply and explanations.
VarAC is nicely polished and enjoyable to use. I am happy to support if any other useful paid features come along.
Hi Howard. thanks your suggestions. I will respond one by one:
1. No possibility for group chat. VARA is a P2P ARQ protocol. you can't do a simultaneously connection to more then one station. Any other methd that involves a coordinator will make it too slow to bare.
2. The VARA HF modem has this TUNE options.
3. I agree. this is a duplication of previously asked feature : https://www.varac-hamradio.com/forum/feature-requests/need-more-canned-message-options
4. a. GZIP is ok even with JPG. able to reduce the size even a bit more. the larger file size you see is due to conversion to ASCII before sending. this will be improved in later versions. your other suggestions for file size limit is a duplication of a feature currently in development: https://www.varac-hamradio.com/forum/in-development/set-incoming-file-size-limit
4. b. Not a fan of this. I am 100% into radio communication. no external help whatsoever :)
5. There are no other options to broadcast a VARA signal except CQ/Beacon. so nothing to "catch". VARA HF modem does not provide information to external program about on going traffic on the frequency. Only on its own monitoring screen.
