I would like to see a "Verbose" mode where all traffic decoded is shown in the RX / Conversation window.
Additionally I would like the VARA HF "Diagram" window to show the RX quality on all received blocks.
Is there any way to set this up with the current v4.6.2 ?
Hi @Mitch Baum
From day one I wanted to gram the data that is captured by the MONITORING instance of VarAC and trasnfer it to VarAC to show it there in a more convenient way. However, In MONITOR mode, the modem does not send the intercepted traffic over the TCP socket unlike when data is decoded during an active link.
I asked Jose EA5HVK about this and he said he is not doing it at the moment.
I wish it was possible also :(

That's a no-go, The modem has to be set to 'monitor' , to monitor the channel traffic, which lists on the modem- and then, will only decode the frame, if the s/n is acceptable , ie if the s/n at the qso stations , enables the faster levels to be engaged and the signal at the monitor is much lower, nothing will be decoded
Switching modem modes, re-configures the modem , allowing beacons , cq's connects etc to be detected and acted upon , forced to send cq or beacon, or responding to connect request by entering into arq link establishment , the linked arq modem , will not monitor channel traffic .
There is also a KISS mode , that sends robust un-connected data frames for aprs usage

I know nothing about the intracies of the VARA-HF modem, but as the previous poster said, the VARA-HF modem settings (displays, decodes, etc) are hard coded into that software. I don't think it's possible to have the VarAC client create a display that is not available in VARA-HF.
As far as input levels go, if your rig is set up properly (think AGC settings), and your data packets are being decoded, then there's nothing that needs to be adjusted or worried about.
I'm used to seeing the old eye pattern so I know that data is being received at the right level. The data diagram is useful only when you actually make contact, but doesn't show if your input level are in tolerance. Maybe VARA can be set to display this on higher performance computers?
As VarAC is just a client for the actual VARA-modem, VarAC cannot show what VARA does not send to it.
As far as I am aware, VARA-modem does not show signalling or other packets in plain text, only the payload and that as well only it is being error free and completed from its parts.
