Noticed that this project requires users to complete a forum to be emailed a link to a ZIP file hosted in WiX (usrfiles.com). My anti-virus program is flagging the download link for VarAC.
Is every user being given a different ZIP file for this application?
Can VarAC please host the software on a reputable Site so anti-virus programs will not flag the ZIP file?
Thanks!
it would be cool to have a download link to wget the file into linux, I dont mind if you collect my ham data but do it via telemetry!
Norton, IMO is worst virus protection, anything else better, slows pc and flags wrong files. Windows defender just fine, and maybe Malwarebytes scan once in a while
Hi Jason.
All downloads of the VarAC package are the same for all.
WIX is the largest website creator platform on the planet and is a gold standard in the website hosting business.
It is well reputable with over 200M users around the globe.
Hundreds of people downloaded VarAC just this week and I did not get any such feedback.
Now to your case.
You antivirus does not tell you there is a virus.
It tells you that it can not determine the file status (see the orange alert you have there).
This is due to the fact that my package is not digitally signed using a certified CA.
VarAC is fairly new (only 2-3 months old) and still did not go through all the channels of maturing a product where one of them is a digital signature. This will take place in the near future.
Every package I upload for distribution is scanned by an antivirus. Here is the scan result of the 5 files in the 2.7.2 package.
I hope it helps.
Best regards,
Irad
Not sure where you are getting the e-mail link. On the website you fill in your info and then the VarAC is d/l in the browser.
A ZIP file was downloaded. The Varac.exe file was extracted into the D:\Program Files (x86) folder to overwrite the older version. The Varac.exe file was run and the pop-up from Anti-virus (attached) showed. The URL that was used to download does not match this URL. Is Varac.exe reaching out to this URL to side load additional components? Is the URL used to download re-directing to the URL shown in the screen shot? Please explain exactly what is going on.
??? Not sure what you are seeing but this is not the case.
