Some suggestions having run and participated in several VarAC HF nets.
Ability to have predefined broadcast messages that can be activated to call a net, ask for checkins, acknowledge checkins by selecting a checkin broadcast, etc.
When typing a broadcast message, do not wrap to the start of the message aftern hitting 91 characters. I've sent some pretty incomprehensible messages that way. Just stop and beep.
Make the QSY behavior consistent. If I send somebody off to a slot to connect, the slot frequency appears in the CF box and the return button is active. If they connect on the calling frequency and then QSY, the CF box is empty and the return button is inactive. The former is better.
If you try to send a file when connected on the calling frequency, you are asked to QSY. But it doesn't happen automatically and if you select "Yes" you can just continue to send the file on the calling frequency. Sometimes when HF frequencies are crowded, that's the desired behavior. We're already running the net off the main calling frequency. Sometimes it's not. Best solution might be to have the pop-up give you the choice of either (a) automatic QSY as the default or (b) check a box that you are not going to QSY and send the file on the calling frequency.
We're all learning how to use VarAC as a new tool so open to suggestions. Those are just my thoughts having stumbled through a few nets.
