I installed Omni-Rig v.1.2 and VarAC v.2.7.2 yesterday. Every time I start up VarAC, something is forcing the Yaesu FT-891 into RTTY mode and changes the radio to the 500Hz filter. It also happens when I hit the Frequency drop-down and will not allow me to select a different freq.
The Omni-Rig home page says you can create new rig .ini files. I downloaded their Rig Description Validator program, examined, and even attempted to modify the existing file, but to no avail.
Note: there is no FT891-DATA.ini option for Omni-Rig.
I have successfully used VARA-HF in Winlink with the SignaLink interface. Has anyone else been able to use VarAC with the 891?
Moved to "Troubleshooting" forum. Thank you all for your help!
I had to save it as a text file instead of .ini so it would load here. Keep in mind, this is the first time I've modified a file like this.
Great progress @n0lx ! I will be happy if you share the final ini file so others can use it as well.
Please send what you have got so far - I might be able to see why you don't get a frequency selection to work as I know how OmniRig communicate with various rigs.
Maybe I'll be able to give you a hint.
73s!
Well, I found a third manual for the FT-891 and was able to modify the .ini file to keep the rig in D-U mode instead of RTTY. I changed the MD09 to MD08 which fixed the problem.
Here is the FT-891 CAT manual link:
https://www.yaesu.com/downloadFile.cfm?FileID=15277&FileCatID=158&FileName=FT-891_CAT_OM_ENG_1909-C.pdf&FileContentType=application%2Fpdf
Now I need to get the frequency selector to work. It reads whatever the radio is set to, but does not change the frequency. To be continued. . .
I will be happy know @n0lx if the information @conawayny provided you with was helpful.
An identical thing happens with the IC-7300. there are two similar .xml files. The one with DATA in the name will switch the rig into the data mode for digital operations. The other one just uses USB and thus uses FSK or RTTY. In the absence of a DATA version, just modify the FT891 file by hand using Notepad to insert the necessary data mode command. The command is probably listed in your manual.
