I am of the opinion that the point-exact transmission of position data and the display of the same on an OFFLINE MAP, a basic condition for an emergency employment is!
I'm a pretty high level guy (meaning there are way too many technical options out there for me to understand them all). I would like to see a virtual interface (like a log program interface) in the VarAC SW that would talk to some well known and readily available Win PC GPS program to allow exact position to be appended to the VarAC beacon (for mobile / portable stations). If I am reinventing APRS, then I am doing it on HF with all the VaAC messaging capabilities tightly integrated to it. That's the high level requirement, as I see it. How it is implemented is up to the coders and insightful integrators among us. Thanks for reading and I hope this finds a positive reception in the VarAC development community.
The display of the own point exact position on a PINPOINT or APRSIS map worked quite well with the first versions of VARAC.
The KISS port of VARA was used, this controlled the position transmission with VARAHF. However, since the introduction of V-Mail, the Kiss port is used for this purpose. Maybe OM Irad is working on enabling PosData broadcasting again? It would be nice.
Rather than APRS you mean? I haven't gone beyond using APRSIS with JS8CALL so I can't help much, but I noticed that it only gets the pin on the correct grid, not the exact coordinates. Having a beacon with actual latitude and longitude with a visual map for all stations would be stellar.

See you all on VarAC. Drop me a vmail.

Would be great!! :-)
