I am new to VarAC-FM. I have no trouble connecting and controlling my IC-7300 with VarAC. However, when I try to use VarAC-FM with either my IC-7100 or IC-9700 I am having a problem. When I open the program it says "can't connect to comm portXX, may be in use by another program". Once in a while it will connect without that error message, but I still can't control the radio and sometimes it locks up the program or my computer. I have tried on both my desktop and laptop, both running Windows 10. I did see a post by Edfel from Pueto Rico (can't remeber his callsign) that shows his settings and says that it works but it looks like he is running an older version of VarAC-FM. Is there a bug in the new version or am I doing something wrong? Please help....thanks.

With VARA FM - you also have the VARA modem that can control the PTT via CAT and this is what is locking your COM PORT probably.
you need to decide who you want to connect the RIG Com port. Either the VARA-FM modem (that can only do PTT) or VarAC (That can do both PTT and frequency control)
if you decide you only need PTT and you don't need VarAC to control your RIG and you are happy with the VARA FM CAT Controlling directly you rig, then in the VarAC settings disable the CAT (set to None/Vox).
If you want VarAC to control your RIG, disable the CAT configuration on the VARA-FM modem and set VarAC to do it
