IC-728 CAT commands

Hello,

I wish to use VarAC on HF with an Icom IC-728. This is possible by using OmniRig. However I want to use the CAT-commands. I took the command set for IC-707 and changed the HEX-code from 3E to 38 on all places. When I try it out it is possible to change frequency on the radio from within the Settings window, choosing the different TEST frequencies the radio switches to that. However it seems impossible to change frequency from the main VarAC window. Does anyone have a working set of cat-commands for IC-728.

PS. I have another IC-728 that is is modified to HEX-code 3E and 9600 baud. Using this one all works well with changing frequencies when I choose CAT IC-707.

Obviously that is not the case. As said with OmniRig Freq select works. I have tested with 2 different IC-728. The IC-728 that I have modified to 3E and 9600 bps works fine with selection IC-707. Maybe I should try to change to 9600 bps and keep 38, but then OmniRig worked at 1200.

There must be some difference in VarAC code when using TEST and when using Freq select, could this be investigated, perhaps by Irad?

Weird, if TEST is working then the Freq select will work.

The previously submitted CAT-files for IC-728 and IC-725 are now verified functional both for setting from VarAC main window and read-back to VarAC when changing frequency on the radios. However the IC-735, did not work.

For IC-735 I had to adjust ReadFreqVfoA_Result_Freq_Start_pos to 11 and Length to 8 as seen on the copy of the CAT-commands below. This is verified functional.

The old IC-735 shows only as last digit 100 Hz-figures, however it can be adjusted to 10-Hz by slowly rotating the dial, this will show up on the VarAC frequency readout. To get the radio display to zero in on the shown digits down to 100 Hz one must press and release the kHz-button on the radio. The ability to change frequency down to 10 Hz does of course not mean that the actual transmitting frequency is that accurate. After careful alignment of an IC-735 according to the service manual I got as best +/-30-50 Hz, and that is very temperature sensitive. The spec says +/- 200 Hz at startup and +/- 30 Hz after 1 hour at 25 deg C. If aligned!
