I tried to use the feature of automatic logging of VarAC QSOs to Log4OM2 log. After some grinding of teeth it started to work. I still see some "undocumented features", which will be mentioned here.
The logging program can be used "online" or "offline". In my configuration (FT710 <=> USB <=> IBM PC / Windows 11) it MUST BE USED OFFLINE. If connected online, it grabs the USB serial port, disabling its use by VarAC. All CAT commands are gone. This "feature" requires a pecking order in starting of the programs. VarAC first, count to 5 to get the link established, Log4OM2 after. This brings the Log4OM2 up in offline mode.
According to manuals, there are 2 ways to make the QSOs from VarAC appear in Log4OM2 log database. One is an old fashioned UTP link on port of your choice (suggested is 1200); this method worked for me. Another is a new feature of Log4OM2 - "scrubbing" the VarAC log for new QSOs, copying them to Log4OM2 reality. This did not work for me.
Please note that, while using Log4OM2 with VarAC, you can not use the VarAC feature of automatic launching of applications. If you point the VarAC to the Log4OM2 .exe file, the logging program will consider itself non - installed, and will start the install process again. Yucks!
This posting should IMHO appear in the troubleshooting section of the forum, but it is not available for me.
