I have a Yaesu FT-920 and I am trying to get VarAC running. The FT-920 is connected to my HP Win 10 PC via a serial CAT cable and a cable from the Digital connector to the PCs RS-232 serial port. I have it installed and everything seems to work as I think it should except when I try to transmit I get no connect. My transmitter is working and I can hear the transmitted signal but no connect. I have also tried to run WinLink Express with VARA HF and I get the same results - everything seems to work correctly but no connect. After the several transmits, which sound like a digital signal, I hear what I think is the repeater is responding in morse code. Again, with no connect.
Also note that I can use my system to run FT8 on wsjt-x/Grid Tracker and it works fine. I can get QSOs through the US, South America and Europe. I think the issue here might be that the VARA modem works differently that wsjt-X and that VARA doesn't like my FT-920. I have noticed that none of these software programs have settings options that are for the FT-920, and people, including me, have to use trial & error to get the setting to work. If any of you have a FT-920 working with VARA I would like to here from you. 73s, Chuck k8ceb
This is the second batch (8) of screen shots showing my same non-connect issue on WinLink Express/VARA HF. The last shot is an attempt to connect with a station. It is set for 10 tries. There is good audible of the TX tries. Again, note that my system is running FT8/wsjt-x just fine. Chuckben99 (k8ceb)
Seven screen shots of VarAC not connecting issue. Chuckben99
So you are saying that CAT Freq control and PTT work correctly? Just trying to narrow down what your issue is.
When you use the TUNE button on VARA HF or VarAC how much RF power does your 920 put out? Where is your ALC during this?
How about some screenshots of VARA HF GUI as well as the settings screens of VarAC and VARA HF (both Setup and SoundCard).
