Hi. Just found VarAC and it seems cool. However, this afternoon when testing I would connect to other hams, and then within about 30 seconds all I hear is the other radio sending modem tones and expecting a response from my computer, but my computer stops keying PTT and VaraHF waterfall freezes. CPU and DB meters are still active. Suggestions?
I had exactly this issue and solved it with a better quality USB cable to the Radio (an FT-991A) with some extra RF chokes clipped to it. I found that the problem was worse on my new Microsoft Surface Pro computer than on my elderly Dell which seemed to bet rather better RF screened. If its the varahf modem that freezes, then it also stop sending ptt commands to varac. Its a vara hf issue and its log may shed more light on whats going on. Paste its log here when it happens. Maybe there is a hint there.
if the VARA HF menus are responsive and its just the Waterfall that got locked up, then to my best experience it is most likely related to sound card issues. Does the VARA HF log says anything ?
