When calling freq is being used for QSO/files/messages how to identify the transmitting stations?

1- The 40m calling freq has been in use for some time this eve- I am guessing someone did not QSY and is chatting/messaging/transferring files. Is there a way to decode and identify the stations?

2- When you broadcast is it decoded only on calling freq or chan you are tx on or do all channels rx the broadcast?

The broadcast is sent on the slot you are on.

The only way to (occasionally) see traffic is by using a 2nd copy of vara-hf in monitor mode, as explained in the docs.

Since VarAC limits traffic on the calling freq to 3 minutes, you may have been experiencing qrm from WINLINK stations which are also on or near that freq, often with WIDE signals, caused by the fact that they use faster transfer rates.

Enable a monitoring VARA. Look under VarAC settings and follow the instructions.

Duplicated Vara folder and mapped- but there was no instruction on port settings. restarted VarAC and 2 Vara modems opened but was unsure which was which. Upon opening the settings on one of them it would not allow me to close it without configuring a port. Impossible to close- not an ideal cfg. In any event does the monitoring modem need a port configured? Thx.

Set a port. I usualy do for monitoring 8350

VarAC will configure it for your VARA monitoring. Just put it in the VARA settings and restart

I tried setting 8400 it did not stick. I downloaded manuals and a powerpoint presentation from the manuals area here and saw 8350 shown and that worked. Will be very nice to have a monitor! Thx for the replies.
